As the sun is starting to SHINE, new tour plans are starting to take shape. Although this message was supposed to reveal a whole bunch of new tour dates, unfortunately we can’t be very specific yet, but still, here’s an idea of what you can expect if you keep a closer look at this page in the coming weeks and months.

First of all, fully confirmed, is the Transit “Music on the road” tour together with brother Gert and the polyphonic choir “Polyfoon” starting this Friday in Mechelen (see all dates on our tour page).

In March, Sarah plans a bunch of US club dates, for some of which she will be joined by Gert, which means our US friends will be able to witness the very first “limited” k’s Choice reunion in an acoustic duo setting. For the time being, Salt Lake City, Johnson City and Atlanta have been confirmed… more dates will follow.

Later, in the spring, the plan is to schedule a South African tour for which dates should be available soon. After that, the caravan should move on to Europe for part 2 of the European SHINE tour (still to be confirmed). The next obvious step brings us to the summer festivals, some of which are very close to be confirmed.

After the summer, rehearsals will start to prepare a brand new Theatre Tour (following the successful and sold out 2006 From Scream to Whisper Tour). Sarah’s musical partner will be Tom Kestens again, but of course the 2006 formula will be entirely reviewed and revamped. This tour should start end of October /early November and will last till X-mas with 17 concerts in Belgium and a bunch of theatre shows in neighboring countries such as Holland and France…

Right after the November/December tour Sarah will do 2 extra shows in Holland as she will perform at Eurosonic in Groningen on January 11 and in Heerlen, Limburgzaal, on January 12. Sarah will also perform at the 2008 edition of Vrienden van Amstel in Ahoy' (Rotterdam) on January 24, 25, 26, 27, 30, 31 and February 1, 2 and 3.

Brand new "Shine" CD will be distributed on OCT 13th for free with a national newspaper…

For the very first time in Belgian media history, a brand-new CD will be distributed for free with a national newspaper… What Prince did in England a few months ago, will be repeated in Belgium by De Morgen as they will add Sarah's new CD "Shine" to their national edition of October 13th! The release will be coupled with an exclusive (private) showcase on October 10th for which tickets can only be won through competitions in De Morgen and via Studio Brussels.

Last minute important news : The official Belgian release of Sarah’s new album “Shine”, planned for September 28th, will be pushed back to November 2nd. The reason for this delay has all to do with an amazing marketing opportunity which you will hear about very soon. You won’t be disappointed, believe us, the only thing we ask you is to have a little bit of patience... you’ll hear all about it in a couple of days! In France, the release is planned on October 9th. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland the release date is October 19th. The Dutch release is, just like Belgium, planned for November 2nd.

New Tour Dates in US and Europe + Sarah on TV!

First of all, good news for our American friends with a series of new gigs in the US next month (Atlanta, Knoxville, Colombus, Cincinatti and Louisville). All exact dates and venues have been added to our tour page/event calendar.

In Europe, the Shine tour (November/December) is now taking shape. On our tour page you’ll find all confirmed dates for Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, France, Germany and Switzerland. More dates will follow in the coming weeks! Austria and other countries should follow in 2008.

Another event we’d like to inform you about, is Sarah’s participation in a TV special with a mix of Dutch artists and a symphonic orchestra who will bring a variety of songs around the themes of youth, love and departure. The recording of this show will take place in Theater t’Spant in Bussum on September 9th at 20.00 h. We can also announce a new European Tour which will support this new release. The Shine Tour will start on November 26th and last till approximately mid December. Already confirmed are: Ancienne Belgique (Brussels) on November 27th and Paradiso (Amsterdam) on December 3rd. On December 14th, Sarah will appear as one of the special guests during Urbanus’ 60th anniversary show in Antwerp (Sportpaleis). We’ll keep you posted as new dates get confirmed…

Sarah signed a new record deal with Universal Benelux!

It’s not a secret anymore that Sarah has signed a new record deal with Universal Benelux for the release of her next album “Shine” (it looks like the working title will become the final one after all).
The official release date of the first single "Daddy’s Gun" (although it’s already airing on Stubru and PureFM as we speak) is June 18th. It won’t be a commercial release, but a promotional e-release only! The album itself is planned for next fall. As you might have read on these pages before, Sarah will be in our neck of the woods shortly to play a couple of European festivals and venues in Belgium, France, Holland, Luxemburg and Austria.

Her stay here in Europe will also generate some promotional activities. As a matter of fact, Sarah will appear (acoustic set + interview) in “De Peter Van de Veire Ochtendshow” (Studio Brussel) on June 19th between 7 and 9 AM and in “Het beste moet nog komen” (Radio 1) between 9 and 10 AM. In the afternoon, Sarah should appear on JIM TV Live Request with a couple of acoustic songs. Also on the planning is an acoustic set on PureFM and an interview with TV Limburg, but the timing of these ones have to be confirmed. In the other countries, interviews are planned with RTL TV, Eldoradio (L), ORF Radio 1476, etc. etc.

As promo schedules often change by the hour, it’s hard to keep track of all of Sarah’s appearances, but much more interviews will follow. (Of course, if you hear or read something in the press, you can always keep fellow fans posted through our forum). To be continued...

New single, New album, Sarah goes digital...

New single, new album and a first digital scoop through Fuzz !!

As we speak, Sarah’s new album “Shine” (working title) has been finalized while negotiations for her new label are reaching the final stage. Recorded in Belgium at the Galaxy Studios, and mixed in the States, Shine will feature 12 new songs produced by Brad Wood (Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, Ben Lee, Liz Phair). The first single, Daddy’s Gun, will be released later this month.

To promote the new album, which will be released in Europe late summer and North America in the fall, Sarah will embark on a series of global tour dates from June through November 2007.

To get a first and wider impression of the new songs, real fans won’t have to wait till September. As a matter of fact three new recordings are exclusively available on FUZZ, a new digital music company providing a one-stop solution that connects artists and fans. These new, previously unreleased songs (Pave the Way, Rescue Me and The Soldier Song) can now be digitally downloaded at http://www.fuzz.com/artist/SarahBettens

The rest of 2007 is shaping up to become a heavy promo and concert year for Sarah, who is scheduled to perform at Torenpop in Holland, Nova Rock in Austria, Genk on Stage and Suikerrock in Belgium, Michfest in Michigan and a series of indoor gigs such as La Maroquinerie in Paris, the Spirit of 66 in Verviers (finally a long-awaited gig in the French part of Belgium!), the Mercury Lounge in New York, etc. (more dates and details on our tour page)

So, behind the scenes everybody is working hard to prepare the next release campaign and we’re sure much more details will follow very soon.

Sarah Bettens volunteers with Habitat For Humanity to assist Hurricane Katrina victims, New Orleans

In March 2007, I went to New Orleans for a week with Habitat For Humanity to help build houses. Ever since Hurricane Katrina, I had felt the need to ‘do something’, something more than just sending a check. Not to question the value of donations - money is still very much needed and appreciated - but I wanted to donate my time too and be a part of the gigantic and overwhelming task of rebuilding New Orleans.

So we put together a small party of five and planned our week. On our first day there, we received a ‘tour’ of the areas that were still primarily uninhabited from an old friend who is a Habitat For Humanity employee. The car fell silent as we drove through miles and miles of destruction and devastation. It’s been two years since Hurricane Katrina, and still thousands of people are living in trailer parks, waiting for solutions and answers that don’t seem to be coming. It was eerie to see it all up close and to drive through the very streets that looked like rivers on television. As sad as the picture looked though, we were happy to be there.

The week proved to be all that we expected. We painted, we learned how to use power tools, we moved dirt, we made shelves, we built a staircase to the house, we loved lunchtime and most of all we brought one hard working mom one week closer to owning her own house. We had the pleasure of meeting our house's owner and her gratefulness and humility inspired us all.

I just wanted to share this with you guys. In the wake of an ongoing war and newer disasters, it’s important we don’t forget.
